Holding Onto Hope Counselling

BACP Registered Counsellor

Life can sometimes feel too much, and you may find yourself struggling to cope and unable to manage work, relationships and family commitments as you have done previously.  Coming to a place of acceptance that you need the help of someone else is a huge step in itself, and reaching out for counselling can feel daunting and takes an immense amount of courage.

Counselling provides an opportunity to speak to a trained mental health professional in confidence about the issues that are causing you the most emotional pain and marks the beginning of a journey that provides the opportunity to explore difficulties, become more self-aware, and develop positive coping strategies.

About Joanne

My name is Joanne and I am a fully qualified MBACP Professional Therapeutic Counsellor. I work in a person-centred, non-directive way and strive to offer clients a safe and nurturing and non judgemental environment, where thoughts and

feelings can be explored without the fear of shame or rejection.

I work with clients experiencing a range of issues, which may include anxiety and low mood, relationship issues or work-related stress and have a particular interest in recovery from addiction.  I feel that my continual Professional Development enriches my work and use DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) and other Third Wave CBT skills to help clients to manage psychological distress and develop positive coping strategies.

Practice description

I am a fully qualified person-centred therapist and qualified over 11 years ago, following completing training at the University of Salford and The Manchester College.  I am also in the process of completing further postgraduate studies at Bath Spa University and throughout my career to date. have used my skills to support clients in a host of organisations, including the NHS, Charities and addiction recovery centres.

I am currently employed by an EAP (Employee Assistance Programme), where I  provide counselling to clients working within NHS Trusts, police forces and various local authorities.

Person Centred Therapy was developed by the psychologist, Carl Rogers in the 1940s and holds the belief that you, the client is the expert on your own life - only you know what it’s like to be you!  Given the right therapeutic conditions, individuals have the potential to heal and grow and identify ways to cope and manage with whatever difficulty they are facing.

Within therapy, I will encourage you to bring issues that you would like the opportunity to discuss and we will walk together, exploring areas of emotional pain and difficulties at a pace which is comfortable for you.

Initial session and ongoing therapy...

Finding the right therapist is important, and so I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation, where we can consider if working together will be beneficial to you.

If you decide that you would like to continue with therapy, appointments are held over either video call or telephone and are charged at £55.00 per 50 minute session.

Within your first session, we will then assess your current emotional wellbeing and discuss the areas that you would like to work on within therapy.

In addition to this, we will discuss a counselling agreement so we are able to work together ethically and transparently.
